The pop star Lily Allen’s mum has inadvertently let slip this week the name of her daughter’s 5 week old baby.
Lily, who has suffered the pain of previously losing babies in pregnancy, has named her little girl Ethel Mary.
I must say it makes a nice refreshing change to see a celebrity naming their offspring by a traditional, ‘old fashioned’ name instead of some ridiculous made up one.
OK, it might not be to everyone’s liking, and to some it might remind them of their Gran, but surely with a solid name such as Ethel they’re going to be taken much more seriously in whatever they decide to do in life than say someone called Buddy Bear or Apple?!
(Sorry Jamie Oliver and Gwyneth Paltrow, but yes you might think the names are cute/funny, but honestly, your child has to go through life with those names!)
Traditional names might come across as old fashioned, but they stand up better than the ridiculous made up names celebrities usually impose on their little bundles of joy.
From David Cameron naming his baby Florence Rose, to Lily Allen and baby Ethel, let’s hope a new trend is being set for nice, NORMAL names anyone can be proud of.
Here are the top 100 UK baby names… (quite a few old fashioned names thrown in here!)
