What makes it Christmas for you? You know, those little things we do to put us in the festive mood, and makes us know that Christmas is here.
Those things that if we didn’t do, then Christmas just wouldn’t be the same. So, in no particular, order here are mine.
Watch The Snowman
This has got to be done. Every year on Channel 4 it’s there, and if it wasn’t they would be getting a stinky moaning letter from me.
No Christmas is complete without The Snowman on the tellybox!
Decorating the Christmas tree
Me and the munchkins decorating the Christmas tree, with them doing the lower down branches and me designated the top ones. (Well, they are only little shorties. 🙂 )
Oh, and me attempting to wind the fairy lights around the Christmas tree while trying not to mutter rude words under my breath as they’re all in a great big tangled heap from last year.
Christmas breakfast
Me not eating a proper breakfast on Christmas morning and just laying into any bars of dark chocolate I may have been bought and in the case of last year, a huge bag of pistachio nuts. Which lasted approximately until just before dinner. Oops.
(Why can you never have just one pistachio nut – once you’ve started it’s physically impossible to stop!)
family visiting
No Christmas would be complete without getting in the car and tootling off to see the relatives.
On Boxing Day we pile in the car to go to my parents, where we have a Christmas buffet tea. Then in the evening me and the husband go to the pub for a bit to catch up with friends. Kids fast asleep, being looked after by their Nanna and Grandad and us being able to see friends who we haven’t seen all year. Excellent. 🙂
Then Christmas week we go to both Great Grandma’s houses’ for more buffet tea and catching up.
Going to feed the ducks/visit churchyard
After all the presents have been opened, breakfast scoffed, and they’ve had a couple of hours play with their new toys, we go for a bit of fresh air and to feed the ducks. Then before heading home, we go to my husband’s dad’s grave to lay some Christmas flowers/wreath for him.
All this is what makes our Christmas, Christmas. For more peeks into other’s Christmasses, head over to http://katetakes5.blogspot.com
I am exactly the same with pistachio nuts xD
Chocolate for breakfast on Christmas morning just has to be done! I forgot about that lol 🙂
I just introduced The Snowman to Leo, and as predicted it was a big hit. I’ve not seen it for years but I think it will be out every year now!
The great thing about The Snowman is it is loved by all ages – something both the 4 year old AND the 8 year old loves which doesn’t happen often! 🙂
Ha – I made husband do the lights this year. Fairy lights rage is not a good look. Happy Christmas!
You and I have the chocolate for breakfast tradition in common!
The Snowman – love it, so sad when he melts. I’ve bought the dvd for my son, and will be making sure he gets into the tradition of watching it on Xmas eve as well as me.
aw the ending always makes me feel 😦 too..
I just told mine how he can build him back up again next year and meet him again lol 🙂
Oh I do love The Snowman. I haven’t dared watch it this year though, my little girl was a bit traumatised by the ending last year! Love the sound of your Christmas breakfast. I hope this year is a good one for you and your family x
Thank you, hope you have a very merry one too! 🙂
The Snowman rescued me last year when Christmas looked like turning out rubbish so I am a new fan of it.
Loss is particularly poignant at Christmas, what a lovely tradition to mark it in the way you do.
I LOVE your idea for Christmas breakfast!
