Looking at pictures and tales of children having to dress up as their favourite book character, it seems I’ve got off lightly with our school as there is to be no funny costumes.
We don’t have to run around panic buying costumes and spending a small fortune on things that are only going to be worn once.
Which is what I would be doing as I don’t ‘do’ sewing.
If I did ‘do’ sewing, I’d end up sewing part of myself to the costume, or the whole thing would fall down in the middle of school assembly or something.
We celebrate World Book Day at our school by having a big book stall instead, where we can buy books.
Now that’s MUCH more up my street.
Any excuse to buy new books is fine by me.
Is your small person dressing up? If so, what are they going as?
Books for book day, now that’s orginal. I am so glad I am not the only one not constructing a Dr Seuss cat in the hat costume, or something equally impressive. J has outgrown that now apparently. I am ashamed to admit it but I had to stifle a bit of a smile when I was the younger children (and mums) filing in costumes today to the infants.
Ours havent done anything this year, or if they have im a bad mum as it means ive forgotten,
But i usually make something my daughters have been the little match girl, and ive done thing 1 and thing 2 with my middle 2 , we have been a nac mac feegle too lol
I love it but its a pet hate of mine that people havent the time to try and make a costume for their kids as the bought ones are so mainstream ie princess pirate etc x
I have the time, but I’m rubbish at making costumes, so I’d probably be one of those buying ones if our school did this! 🙂 Oops.
Thing 1 and Thing 2 great, I love Cat In the Hat, firm favourite in this house! 😀
Our Austin went in to pre-school as a dinosaur. I felt so sad though – when we arrived, there was a little boy cowering outside the classroom door. He didn’t want to go in, as he had no costume. Perhaps it’s better not to ask them to dress up….
Aw 😦 That’s where it all goes wrong, I think. Some might not be able to send their children into class with a costume, so they’ll feel left out.
I’m amazed how often schools expect parents (all right, mothers!) to make or buy fancy dress costumes for their children. I agree, far better to spend the time/money on books!
